CHAPLAINCY – HELPING FAMILIES AND STUDENTS
We are so fortunate at Patricks Road to have such a high quality
Chaplaincy service. Many parents know Andrea and Ashley
through casual contact as well as when their services have been
used by their children or themselves.
Chaplaincy has expanded greatly throughout Queensland Schools
over the past few years, reflecting the needs within our
communities for the social support provided. Working through the
Scripture Union, headed by Tim Mander, chaplaincies have proven
to be effective to help students and families who are experiencing
difficulties or are in real crisis. They are people to share problems
with, to make contact with other groups and agencies that can
help, or just as a ‘Time-out’ zone in our busy lives.
There are a number of programs implemented by our Chaplains,
often in collaboration with other staff. These are accessible
through a referral process from staff. Parents are able to talk with
either Andrea or Ashley to find out more about these programs.

• Friends : a program to develop resiliency in children through
positive thinking and problem solving strategies.
• G Team : a program that develops team building and social
skills in a beautiful outdoors environment in the school’s own
forested gully area.
• Seasons : a support program for children having to deal with
grief and loss in their lives after divorce / separation or even death
in their extended family situation.
• Rock and Water : a physical program that develops social /
emotional awareness and anger management strategies.
• Unlimited : a small group focussed on developing leadership
and positive interaction skills.
Most importantly the Chaplains are there when needed to provide
one on one support in a pastoral care role. They take time to listen
and they care about students, staff and parents.
The costs of the chaplaincy are quite substantial and no school
grants are able to be allocated.
• $10 from the family contribution is a main source of
funds (reminder to pay if you haven’t already).
• Arana Leagues Club generously donated $5000 this
year. Thank them next time you go for a meal.
• Our Coffee Cart contributes $1 from each cup sold.
Thanks go to the NW Community Church for this and
their other support that helps so much.
• Various community members donate a regular
amount each month. This is tax deductible, and is
really appreciated. See John at the Coffee Cart, or
Mr Murray if you are interested in making a donation
as we have a continual need to find more sources of
funding if the service is to be maintained.
Our Chaplains are an important part of our school and they are
supported by a Local consultative Committee headed by John
Duncombe. They provide guidance, advice and play an important
role in finances. Members of the community are welcome to join
this group which meets regularly at The Coffee Cart or Zanettis.
